My functional ware is brushed with a soft terra sigillata (“sealed earth”) finish and a glossy food safe glaze inside. For me keeping a simple color palate is important because it complements your food or drink, which encourages you to slow down and truly enjoy your experience. These pots are fired to 2100 degrees fahrenheit (^3 in ceramic speak). This is lower than the traditional temperature which allows me to fire in an electric kiln that uses less energy, while still resulting in very sturdy, functional pottery.
Unless noted, all functional pottery is pre-seasoned with coconut oil. Much like a family heirloom, these pots will patina over time and become richer, thus slight variation in surface is a natural part of the process. For best results: hand washing is recommended for the first few weeks of regular use to encourage the patina surface.
Microwave safe. Food safe. Lead free.
As with any handmade pottery, never place a cold pot into a hot oven, or a hot pot onto a cold surface/fridge/freezer. And never use on an open flame or stove top.
If your pot looks dry and you want to add a fresh layer of coconut oil:
Slowly warm up the pot in an oven until just barely warm, carefully remove (with pot holders) and brush the outside with a thin layer of coconut oil.
Remove any extra oil with a cloth rag.
